Pandemic Laboratory Preparedness (PLP) at SciLifeLab is actively following and participating in national and international activities related to the ongoing Hanta-/Andesvirus outbreak.

We would like to emphasise that we share Folkhälsomyndigheten’s  and WHO’s assessment that this does not represent a new pandemic situation, despite the significant media attention surrounding the outbreak. Nevertheless, we see value in using the situation as a preparedness exercise and an opportunity to strengthen coordination, readiness, and relevance across the PLP community.

As partners of the BE READY NOW (The European partnership for pandemic preparedness), PLP is participating in joint preparedness and coordination activities linked to the outbreak scenario. This includes rapid mapping of national infrastructure, laboratory capacities, expertise, and operational capabilities relevant for infectious disease preparedness and response. The activities provide an opportunity to test communication and coordination within the network, while improving the overview of available capacities and collaborations nationally and internationally.

We are proud of the strong engagement shown by the PLP community throughout these activities and preparedness exercises, and proud to see how the network delivers when needed.
