New Pathogens Portal Node launched by Chile

A new Pathogen Portal Node (PPN) has been launched in Chile. The Chilean Pathogens Portal provides a central access point to information on priority pathogens affecting Chile. It brings together interactive dashboards, outbreak updates, surveillance summaries, and curated resources to support researchers, public health professionals, clinicians, and policymakers. The portal covers a broad range of pathogens, including respiratory viruses, vector-borne diseases, antimicrobial resistance, foodborne pathogens, and emerging infectious diseases, with data linked to official national and international sources.
The portal has been developed through a collaboration involving Universidad de Chile, the Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases (ACCDiS), CHAIR – Center for HIV/AIDS Integral Research, and the Unidad de Genómica Avanzada (UGA), with support from the Pathogen Data Network (PDN), Chile’s FONDAP programme, and the ICAI Platform.
The Chilean Pathogens Portal has been developed using the Pathogen Portal Node (PPN) Toolbox, an open framework created as part of the Pathogen Data Network (PDN) (funded by NIH, award number U24AI183840). The toolbox enables a PPN to be created very quickly, with minimal need for in-house development.
The launch of the Chilean Pathogens Portal marks another important milestone for the growing PDN, which works to improve the visibility, accessibility, and interoperability of pathogen-related data and resources. The work of PDN is crucial for strengthening global preparedness and collaboration for infectious disease surveillance and research.
