Two new Pathogens Portal Nodes launched
Published: 2025-08-26

The Pathogen Data Network (PDN), funded by NIH (award number U24AI183840), comprises a network of multiple Pathogen Portal Nodes (PPNs). It enables a global ecosystem of linked data and tools to support research and public health response to infectious diseases and epidemics.
Two new PPNs were launched over the summer:
-
Spanish Pathogens Portal is a central access point for resources (e.g. data and tools) for pathogen surveillance and research in Spain. It features dashboards related to national and European initiatives, e.g. the ReleCOV genomic surveillance network for SARS-CoV-2. The Spanish PPN also contains bioinformatics pipelines, training materials for pathogen genomics, and information on the latest developments in Spain.
-
The Costa Rican Pathogens Portal was established by the Universidad de Costa Rica. It contains multiple dashboards related to projects within Latin America, as well as news on the latest developments within Costa Rica.
Both nodes were created using the PPN Toolbox. This minimal code is intended to facilitate the development of other national nodes, and is being used to create the upcoming portals.
