Easily access Swedish metabolomics data
November 05, 2026
The Swedish Pathogens Portal has created the metabolomics data page to facilitate access to Swedish metabolomics data related to infectious disease research. Metabolomics is an important tool in infectious disease research, providing insights into the metabolic processes of pathogens and their interactions with hosts. However, finding relevant datasets within even well-known public repositories can be challenging, especially when trying to identify data from Sweden.
The new page shows data from MetaboLights, an international repository for metabolomics studies maintained by EMBL-EBI. It shows all data in Metabolights that is known to be linked to a Swedish institute, and related to infectious disease research.
Users are able to search through the studies to identify data of potential relevance to their work. They can also explore study descriptions and associated metadata (e.g. the methods used to generate the data, experimental design, and year of production). Direct links are provided to the experimental data in Metabolights for easy download.
The page was developed in close collaboration with the Swedish Metabolomics Centre (SMC). The Swedish Pathogens Portal will continue working closely with the SciLifeLab Metabolomics and Exposomics platform to further improve the resource and expand its usefulness to the research community over time.
The page is part of the Swedish Pathogens Portal’s aims to meet community needs by making research data more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). In a survey in 2025, users stated that they wanted access to a greater diversity of data (including different data types and data related to a greater number of pathogens). This new page satisfies both of these needs. Over time, the portal will continue to expand the data available via the portal. The data types currently available can be identified via the available data page.
Explore the new Metabolomics data page and discover datasets relevant to your work.
